Casting Call: A Christmas Carol
This classic Christmas story is coming to Fairbanks and will be produced by Fairbanks Drama Association. We will be bringing to the stage Romulus Linney’s adaptation of this story of redemption. Scrooge is a grumpy spendthrift who has chosen business and wealth over life and relationships. The night before Christmas he is visited by four Ghosts which lead him to revisit his past, honestly assess his present, and imagine his grim future if his life stays the way it is.
We value your time, not all actors will be required to be at every rehearsal for the full time, but it is essential that you come to every scheduled rehearsal. At auditions, please be ready to inform us of any conflicts you may have.
Roles
This is a large production with many roles. Some actors may be cast in multiple parts. We need a minimum of 9 adult men, 4 women, 4 boys, and 3 girls
Special skills: There is one dance scene, think basic folk dancing.
Some Singing/Christmas Caroling-Especially the Cratchit Family and several children. Children will be asked to sing a little bit during the audition, but not all roles require singing.
Men’s Parts
Ebeneezer Scrooge (Male 40-70)
The lead, on stage for the entire play, looking for an actor who can give Scrooge a depth of character and feeling, displaying a range of emotions from depressed and morose, to joyous, giddy and mischievous.
Bob Cratchit (Male 30-45)
Scrooge’s clerk, he is a kind, hardworking man who cares deeply about his family.
Young Scrooge (Male 18-30)
We see Scrooge as a young man, hardworking and catching his first taste of love. He is a bit socially awkward and trying to sort out life.
Fred (Male 18-30)
Scrooge’s Nephew, a young vivacious optimist. He is perhaps obnoxiously happy.
Marley (Male 35-70’s)
Scrooge’s business partner, he comes back as a ghost to warn Scrooge about where his choices are leading him. This role calls for gravitas and dreadfulness.
Fezziwig (Male 35-70’s)
Young Scrooge’s mentor and boss. He is a happy man who has lived a full life.
Husband (Male 25-40)
A husband and father who is struggling to pay his debts to Scrooge
Old Joe (40-70)
A creepy grim older man, the dregs of society. He is unconcerned about ethics and just about what he can get for himself.
Topper (Male 19-30)
Young man, a flirt
Women’s Parts
Mrs. Cratchit (Female 30-45)
The vivacious and outspoken wife of Bob. She keeps the Cratchit Family fed, clothed, and full of joy
Belle (Female 18-30)
Young Scrooge’s love interest. She is caring, passionate, self-assured, and knows her own worth
Niece (Female 18-30)
The wife of Fred, Scrooge’s Nephew. She does not much like her uncle-in-law
Fan (Female 20-40)
Scrooge’s older sister, his sole source of kindness when he was a child.
Martha Cratchit (Female 16-25)
Bob Cratchi’s oldest daughter. She is overworked and in need of a break.
Caroline (Female 25-40)
A young wife and mother struggling to make ends meet. She is stressed.
Mrs. Fezziwig (Female 35-70)
Gregarious, delightful woman.
Fezziwig’s Three Daughters (Female 12-30)
Happy daughters, love to dance
Undertaker’s Woman, Charwoman, Laundress, Threadbare Woman (Female, any age) These women fill out the scenes of London.
Any Adult
Ghost or Christmas Past (Any Gender, Any Age)
Ageless, ethereal, wise.
Ghost of Christmas Present (Any Gender, 40-60)
Happy, larger than life, knows how to enjoy the small things and live well.

A silent role, fills the space with dread.

Tiny Tim (Male 7-12)
Son of Bob Cratchit, a cripple. He is the emotional heart of the story and displays strong resilience.
Carol Boy (Male 8-14)
A poor boy, singing Christmas carols to make a bit of money.
Scrooge as a Boy (Male 8-14)
Playful, hardworking, lonely
Oliver and Valentine (Males 8-14)
Boyhood Friends of Scrooge. Playful, Carefree
Peter (Male 10-14)
Bob Cratchit’s older son.
Other boy’s roles
Include a variety of street urchins and children at the parties.
Melinda, Belinda, Gillian Cratchit (Female 8-16)
Bob Cratchit’s Daughters, playful, happy children

Show Run: Dec 4 - 20,2026 at 7:30 on Friday & Saturday, 2 pm on Sunday
